Yoga for the practice of Christian Meditation (DVD & Book)

#7077

This DVD and the book are a response to the reference John Main makes to the body in describing how to meditate. It is a yogic elucidation of learning to “sit still and upright”. The body as a temple of God’s spirit needs a process of cleansing and awakening not only to make it a worthy dwelling place of God but also as the most effective and authentic vehicle for the journey towards the heart. A simple guide for meditators, this is an attempt to include the major systems in the body in the work of shifting the locus of control from the ego to the antaryamin (“inner controller”), the Spirit of the Risen Lord.

Rev Fr Joseph Pereira is the founder of Kripa Foundation, the largest NGO working in the field of addiction and HIV/AIDS. Born on 6 September 1942 in Vasai, Maharashtra, India, he was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on 21 September 1967. As an ardent student of yoga since 1968 under the world-renowed Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar, and a certified instructor, he has structured specific sequences of postures (ananas) and breathing (pranayama) with meditation (dhyana) in the Kripa model for the recovery of addicts and people living with HIV/AIDS. On 26 January 2009 the government of India conferred on Fr Joe the Padma Shri Award for his significant contribution to the nation.
