Reflections by Leaders who Meditate

In separately recorded conversations, three leaders reflect on the practice of meditation in relation to leadership.

I am not a spiritual person. For me the value of meditation is not so much the spiritual values, but the value it has in helping me to resolve problems. But undoubtedly, in the long run, it must alter a person’s character. (Lee Kuan Yew, Founding Prime Minister, Republic of Singapore)

When the Beatles started meditating, they drew attention to it. It was a curiosity and I thought I would try it. It’s changed my life. It’s the biggest influence in whatever success I’ve had in life. (Ray Dalio, Founder, Chairman and Co-Chief Investment Officer, Bridgewater Associates)

Meditating is probably the kindest thing we can do for ourselves. Paradoxically it is also the kindest thing we can do for others. In meditation, we are transcending our ego, and we are better able to perceive reality undistorted by the ego. (Ng Kok Song, Adviser and Chair of Global Investments, GIC)
