This book is a complete collection of John Main’s letters, previously published in two volumes which are now out of print. In his lifetime, John Main wrote a series of deeply insightful letters of spiritual direction to the growing family of meditators around the world. The letters offer spiritual wisdom and insight that is as fresh and relevant for today as when they were first written.
John Main saw that the Rule of St. Benedict, a rule of life for monastic communities, could be relevant for Christian living in the secular world and founded a community of lay people who shared his vision. From this small beginning has grown The World Community for Christian Meditation, a Monastery without Walls which today is active around the world. Its work, and its emphasis on meditation, derives directly from the Benedictine focus on prayer and lectio divina or holy reading.
