Forty Days of Silence: Insights of Contemplative Writers is designed as an occasional companion for meditators in their quiet times, or perhaps when on retreat. The quotations may also be found suitable as short teachings for groups. It is made up of 40 short chapters, and so may also be found useful for daily readings during Lent. The last page of each chapter is a blank sheet, allowing the eye and mind a rest from the printed word, and giving the reader a place to record their own reflections if they wish.
In his foreword, Fr Laurence Freeman commented: "for friends old and new, the spring of silence which Jane opens in this book will be refreshing and welcome".
