Wholeness and Holiness

Reminding us of the body as a vessel of holiness, Fr Joe Pereira says it needs to be integrated with the mind and spirit in coming to wholeness. Lack of physical conditioning can be a cause of distraction in prayer and meditation. To prepare the body for meditation and help in sitting ‘upright and still’ as John Main instructed, Fr Joe teaches simple breathing and stretching exercises. The exercises direct and harmonise the energies in the body. When the energy of the life located in the spine is directed upwards, and the energy of intelligence located mainly in the front brain is directed downwards, they meet in the heart, our deepest centre. This helps us let go of the ego and welcome the Spirit of the Risen Lord dwelling in our heart.
